Terry has been with the South Australian Museum for nearly 30 years.  His published work over that period includes genetic studies on a wide range of organisms including bacteria, fungi, nematodes, insects and mammals that have untangled the number of species and their evolutionary relationships.  But Terry’s expertise and interest lies in the study and conservation of Australasian bats. His recent and current work on bats includes:

  • resolving taxonomic issues using molecular and morphological techniques
  •  development of echolocation call libraries and call identification
  •  writing national survey standards
  •  assessments of the threatened status of bats
  • developing innovative survey methods including radar surveillance and thermal imaging counts of cave-bat populations
