The Australasian Antarctic Expedition (AAE) led by Dr Douglas Mawson marked the first Australasian temporary occupation of Antarctica. With several more narratives now available and from the vantage point of a hundred years the account of the expedition needs to be re-examined. This symposium will be focusing on what has been omitted, forgotten, not well told or distorted. Some aspects have until recently been neglected, others so highlighted that mythical elements can be discerned.
Join speakers including Dr Meredith Hooper, Associate Professor Elle Leane and Hon. Res. Prof Pat Quilty as they unpack the Aurora expedition on the centenary of its return.
