Walk through the Meteorite Collection with artist Meghan O’Rourke. In this artist talk Meghan will describe the work she has developed in response to the collection as part of the Inside SAM's Place project.
Inspired by the Museum’s collection of ancient extra-terrestrial meteorite specimens, UnEarthly: meteorites and microstructures features work by contemporary jeweller and metalsmith, Meghan O'Rourke. Drawn, in particular, to the curious geometric phenomenon known as Widmanstätten patterns found in some iron–nickel alloy specimens, Meghan developed specialised hand dying and texturing techniques to create work made from titanium with distinctive colour layers and fascinating optical effects reminiscent to those found within the meteorites.
Please meet Meghan in the Main Foyer 10 minutes prior to the starting time.
