Crystals, meteorites and minerals first identified in South Australia are all part of discovering the minerals in the Museum.
One of Sir Douglas Mawson’s many roles was to look after the Museum’s Minerals Collection. In fact, the black display case at one end of the Minerals and Meteorites Gallery is from a set he commissioned.
Students visiting the Mawson and Minerals Galleries have a unique opportunity to learn about rocks and minerals in a variety of ways. Their ideas about rocks and minerals will be enriched as they look at the variety of minerals in the Museum's collection and explore the geological work of Sir Douglas Mawson.
We recommend a lesson with an Education Manager to enable students to handle examples of rocks and different minerals.
