This exhibition is about the Ngarrindjeri, the Aboriginal people of the Lower Murray River, Lakes and Coorong.

In the Dreaming, the ancestral hero, Ngurunderi, travelled the Ngarrindjeri lands creating landscapes and making laws for people. This exhibition uses events in the Dreaming to introduce Ngarrindjeri culture and history.

The traditional Ngarrindjeri lifestyle contrasted greatly with that of the desert people. Abundant food and water allowed more permanent and intensive occupation of the region. Since the arrival of Europeans in the early 1830's the Ngarrindjeri have lived through many traumatic changes. Despite these changes they have maintained a strong Aboriginal identity.
