South Australian Museum Foundation
The South Australian Museum holds more than four million items of natural and cultural heritage within its unique and globally significant collections. The Museum’s role as custodian of these collections is only part of the story. The Museum uses its collections to create connections between visitors and the natural world – exciting inquiring minds and helping them to see value in science.
The South Australian Museum Foundation exists to progress the work of the Museum in sharing its collections, stories and science with a worldwide audience. The Foundation raises much-needed funds to run special projects at the Museum. Major projects supported by the Foundation include the opening of the South Australian Biodiversity Gallery, redevelopment of the Australian Aboriginal Cultures Gallery, the expansion of the Information Centre, and the digitisation of the Australian Aboriginal Material Culture Collection. The Foundation has contributed to many more projects within the Museum, including the acquisition and conservation of artefacts.
These initiatives would not have been possible without the extraordinary support of individual donors and private foundations.
When giving to the South Australian Museum Foundation, you become part of the dynamic philanthropic community that supports the Museum's future. You will enjoy a range of benefits, including invitations to exclusive events and behind-the-scenes opportunities to explore the Museum and its vital work. Donations to the Foundation are fully tax deductible. Cumulative gifts of $1000 or more will be acknowledged on the Museum's new Donor Wall in the Main Foyer.
A bequest to the South Australian Museum Foundation is a generous way to make a lasting contribution to the collections and activities of the Museum. We invite you to make a notified bequest in your will for the benefit of future generations.
You can do this by:
- writing a letter to the South Australian Museum Foundation advising of your intention to make a bequest;
- providing a copy of the relevant extract from your will; and
- providing a confirming letter from your solicitor.
We strongly recommend that you seek professional advice from your solicitor or financial adviser when arranging a bequest. If you are considering leaving the South Australian Museum an object as a gift, we encourage you to contact the Foundation to discuss the Museum's collecting needs with our Collection Managers. The Museum acquires objects in line with its Collections Policy.
Tribute and memorial gifts
Tribute gifts are a wonderful way of honouring someone special for momentous occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries and weddings. Memorial gifts are a heartfelt way of expressing sympathy for a lost loved one. We will send you a receipt to acknowledge your tax deductible donation as well as a letter to the family to inform them of your thoughtful gift.
The South Australian Museum Foundation recognises outstanding benefactor contributions by granting naming rights within galleries, public spaces and to professional positions. These naming opportunities — in grateful recognition of leadership gifts from the Museum's most generous supporters — ensure that your generosity will be recognised for years to come.
