The South Australian Biodiversity Gallery was opened on 12 February 2010 on Level 2 of the museum. It tells the unique story of South Australia's precious wildlife, divided into four distinct environmental regions: arid, temperate, coastal and marine.

A combination of hand-made 3D models using the latest techniques, and taxidermy items held in the SA Museum's collections, the gallery captures a transect through the regions and looks at the biology and ecology that underpins biodiversity.
