Online Educators Evening: Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year

4pm-5pm

Online webinar
Free

Are you an educator looking for new ways to excite and inspire your students? Join us on Wednesday 20 September for an online webinar showcasing our current 2023 Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year exhibition, and find out how these breathtaking photographs can foster creativity and critical thinking in your students.

Now in its landmark 20th year of competition, the competition invites professional, emerging and junior photographers from around the world to celebrate the natural heritage of Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica and New Guinea.

This webinar shows how you can incorporate these images into the curriculum, whether it be using them as a hook or a catalyst for critical thinking and discussion.

We will hear from Dr Jared Thomas, the William and Margaret Geary Curator of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art and Material Culture, who will discuss cultural burning in response to the winning entry by Samuel Markham, My Country Burns. We will also have a live question and answer session with photographer, and exhibition partner, Paul Atkins.

Find out about how to plan a visit with your class and learn about our student question cards which facilitate critical and creative thinking.

You can download the question cards here.

Registrations close on Monday 18 September.

Paul headed up the Australian Institute of Professional Photography both on the national board and as state president, and was national president of the Photo Marketing Association. Paul is a regular guest assessor for students of the Centre for Creative Photography, he judges photographic prizes, and curates exhibitions.
