FAQ for Shadow Initiation School Bookings

What year levels is the Shadow Initiation appropriate for?

With appropriate supervision, we recommend the Shadow Initiation for Year 6 and over. If you would like to enquire about the suitability for your students, please contact us at shadow@samuseum.sa.gov.au

Is the Shadow Initiation aligned with the Australian Curriculum?

Yes, the Shadow Initiation is aligned with the Australian Curriculum, under Science, HASS and General Capabilities. You can find our Schools Experience guide which contains the curriculum links for Years 6-10, assessment rubrics, and reflection and evaluation guides.

How much is tablet hire?

Tablet hire for schools is $35.00 per tablet. Tablets can only be booked at this price by contacting us directly to arrange a booking.

How many students can use one tablet at once?

Each tablet can be used by up to 4 participants at one time.
We recommend having your students split into their groups of 4 prior to arriving at the Museum.

How many students can you accommodate at one time?

All school bookings to be made via shadow@samuseum.sa.gov.au to discuss booking options, tablet availability and available dates.
We can accommodate approximately 50 students at any one time, however, please contact us to discuss booking options.

How long does the game take?

The game itself is completed under a strict 1-hour time limit. We recommend arriving at the Museum at least 20-30 minutes prior to your session time, to allow time for an explanation of the game prior to commencing, and at least 10 minutes after completion to allow time to return your tablets and collect your scores. Full booking time approximately 90 minutes.

How many supervising adults need to be present?

While there does not need to be direct supervision for each participating group, please ensure that supervisor to student ratios meet the current requirements prescribed in the Department for Education Excursions Procedure.

How far in advance do we need to make a booking?

We recommend making a booking no less than 4 weeks in advance, however late notice bookings can be arranged on a case-by-case basis by contacting us at shadow@samuseum.sa.gov.au.
We require final attendance numbers no less than 7 days prior to your excursion to finalise tablet hire and invoicing.

How difficult are the questions?

Questions, challenges, and tasks range in difficulty, and it is impossible to complete all questions within the time limit.
We encourage students to work collaboratively to answer as many questions as they can within the time limit, and to be strategic about the questions they attempt.

What are the physical requirements?

  • Participants will need to be able to read and view the collections across different sections of the Museum in order to play the game. There are no other physical requirements.

  • Students do not need to, nor should they, run, nor will they need to move or lift heavy objects.
Each section of the game can be accessed by either the lifts or stairs at each end of the East wing of the Museum.

  • The game is wheelchair accessible and suitable for deaf and hard of hearing persons.

  • The game is only available in English at present.

Can payment be done by invoice or is it in person?

All school bookings for Shadow Initiation must be pre-arranged prior to attending the Museum. We are happy to discuss payment options when arranging your booking.
