Get hands on in the Museum with Minerals or Fossils!
Schools can book access to our Minerals Trolley or Fossils Trolley to use in our Learning Space during your Museum visit.
Each trolley contains three drawers full of exciting museum objects for students to explore and a teacher resource to support learning.
Once booked, pick up the key on arrival and head up to the Learning Space on Level 2 at your allocated time where we will have everything set up for you. This can include tables and chairs for older students or a floor mat for younger classes. Trolley hire is teacher-led and does not include a museum educator.

Trolley access is a low-cost option for schools to enhance their Museum experience and are free for Category 1-4 Department for Education Schools.

Museum Discovery Cases are available for loan, with each case filled with Museum objects and an accompanying resource.

Thinking Out Loud: Effective Learning in the Museum
Available times: Monday – Friday 10:00am – 4:00pm
Duration: 1 Hour
Capacity: Minimum 10, Maximum 40 teachers per booking. Multiple bookings can be made to accommodate larger groups.
How can we cultivate curiosity, questioning and meaning making through a Museum visit? This session will look at practical strategies to promote critical thinking and active learning in the Museum and back in the classroom. This professional learning session can be booked on request and includes:
A tour of Museum spaces with a focus on how teachers can effectively self-guide students in the Museum through the lens of the Effective Learners area of impact in the South Australian curriculum.
Dedicated time for teachers to explore the hands-on resources that the Museum has to offer schools, with information about how to book and how they can be used to create enriching learning experiences.
Ask us about how we can tailor your session to year levels or learning areas.
Notes:
Bookings must be made at least two weeks in advance and are subject to availability.
Cultural tours of the Australian Aboriginal Cultures Gallery are not available as part of this program.
Tours of ticketed temporary exhibitions can be included on request. This will incur cost of entry for all attendees in addition to the standard booking fee for this session.

Supporting students who are blind or have low vision
Created by South Australian School and Services for Vision Impaired (SASSVI), our tactile marine education kit is available for schools who have students who are blind or have low vison. This kit contains 3D printed objects and braille resources and can be accessed on request during a visit or can be loaned out to schools.
We can also facilitate access to the Discovery Centre and other tactile objects to support inclusion of VI students who are visiting as part of a school excursion. Please contact us two weeks prior to a visit to arrange access.
