Wlademir Holtze joined the Powell Creek Telegraph Station in 1881, employed as a line-man. Wlademir (sometimes spelt Vladimir or Waldemar) Holtze, also known as Wallaby. Born in Russia in 1869 the second son of Maurice and Evlampia Holtze, he came to Darwin with them in 1873.
Wlademir became postmaster at Tennant Creek in 1930 and was associated with the Overland Telegraph for over 72 years.
He retired before World War II to a galvanised shack two miles from Powell Creek station but came back on the job for a few years during the war.
Wlademir died in Darwin Hospital aged 94.
