Prior to contacting, please note:

• The South Australian Museum does not provide valuations of objects or artefacts. 

• The Museum has limited capacity to provide identification services and is unable to reply to every request. Before contacting us, please review our Identification FAQs page. Flora or fauna identification requests should be directed to iNaturalist in the first instance. 

• Collections and archives access is currently unavailable. Internal resources have been prioritised toward collection transfer activities to support the Cultural Institutions Storage Facility project, which is an important initiative focused on the long‑term care and preservation of the collection. This work is not anticipated to be completed until late 2026, apologies for the temporary inconveniences during this time. 

• The Museum is not currently accepting object donations. Should this change in the future, only items that fall within the Museum’s collecting scope will be considered. 

• The South Australian Museum is not currently accepting work experience or student placements. Career opportunities at the Museum are advertised on the I Work For SA webpage.

Aboriginal Family and Community History Unit

Since 1988, this unit has provided a confidential and professional genealogy research service making the Museum's archival material service accessible to Aboriginal family-history researchers.

Due to the volume of logged enquires in the system response times can be more than six months, we appreciate your patience.
