Facilities & tours

The Museum has five floors and endless wonders to discover. The information on this page is provided to ensure you have a safe and comfortable visit.

We are not able to offer group or guided tours or accommodate external tour groups at this time.

Please consider when visiting the Museum that all groups of more than 10 persons, with the exception of people who live in a single household, will be asked to disperse and socially distance during their visit to the Museum.  All galleries have mandated capacity limits which must be adhered to.

We ask on arrival that you sanitise your hands and comply with any directions on signage or from staff.

Toilet Refurbishment

From Monday 6 September, the South Australian Museum will commence a renovation and upgrade of its visitor amenities. The toilets in the Museum will be out of order.  During this time, a temporary block of female, male and accessible toilets will be established at the rear of the Museum adjacent to the State Library of South Australia and will be made available to visitors during opening hours. There are also adjacent facilities in the Art Gallery and State Library of SA. These works will also have an impact on the Museum’s parenting room with no running water available, visitors are still welcome to use this space but if needing running water, it is advised to use the facilities at our neighbouring institutions.

We anticipate that these temporary arrangements will be in place until December.

We apologise for any inconvenience and we look forward to providing our visitors with new and transformed facilities.
