The Discovery Centre is a special place where people of all ages can get hands on with Museum objects.
At the Discovery Centre, you can touch a real fossil, use a microscope, or be mesmerised by the busy bees in our working beehive. Our friendly staff are also on hand to answer questions or just talk about the amazing science on display.
The Discovery Centre is open to the public from 10:30am-2:30pm on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
If you have a rock, fossil or animal you're interested in identifying, visit our Identification FAQs page to help answer your query.
Bringing a school or community group?
School and tour groups are welcome to visit the Discovery Centre during opening hours. Our staff will be happy to introduce your group to the room and explain what is on offer. No bookings are required.
Please be aware that this is a small room and larger groups may need to split into smaller groups to visit. Children need to be adequately supervised at all times.
