This collection originated from John Andrew Ophel and donated to the SA Museum by AE Ophel (Arnold Edwin Ophel 1881-1955) and Miss Ophel (Grace Eliza Ophel 1874-1940). Contains photographs and negatives from the Point McLeay Mission.

John Andrew Ophel (1839-1891) was born in Dry Drayton, England. Arrived in Australian in 1855. From 1866 to 1885 he was school master at Point McLeay, under Rev G Taplin (AA319) in connection with the Aborigines Friends' Association (AA 1).
