During the 1925 summer vacation CJ Hackett took a break from his medical studies at the University of Adelaide. He took a steam train to the Oodnadatta terminus and travelled on, by truck, to Alice Springs. Between December 1925 and January 1926 CJ Hackett travelled with local water-drilling contractor, ES Horwood, from Oodnadatta to Alice Springs and back again.
