After graduating, CJ Hackett spent 1928 as resident medical officer at Adelaide Hospital. He then travelled to Britain and attended anthropological lectures before undertaking the diploma course at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (DTM&H, 1930). During 1929 CJ Hackett visited the Five Knolls excavation site (Bronze Age barrows) at Dunstable.
