Annotated in ink on the reverse "Papua New Guinean of Rawa tribe, Finisterre Mountains, north coast of New Guinea. The Rawa men were great fighters and dominated the other tribes of the Finisterre Mountains. Their villages lie at heights from 4000 to 5500 ft. They were visited for the first time by Europeans in 1929 when I took a patrol into their country and made friends with them. They promised not to attack other tribes unless they were first attacked, and later the chief and several other men came to Madang on a visit. AJ Hunter."
