'Archaeology of S-W Centralian Desert'

Manuscript for 'Archaeology of S-W Centralian Desert' and associated documents.

This item contains the following documents:

  1. An unbound handwritten manuscript, written by Johnson in 1958. A handwritten title on the covering page reads ‘Manuscript of Archaeology of S-W Centralian Desert, JE Johnson, Mar-2-1958’. A further handwritten title on the first page of the manuscript reads ‘A statistic analysis of information regarding 22 aboriginal occupation sites in the far North-West of SA, and Eastern central WA, by JE Johnson, 1957’. In the introduction Johnson states the purpose of the report was to collate and interpret data he had collected at various sites in the region relating to archaeological cultural sequences, typological evolution and climactic variations, in an attempt to determine the periods of time at which particular archaeological cultures were predominant in the area. 2 March 1958. 106 pages.

  2. Handwritten note (measuring approximately 17x12 cm) which was kept with the manuscript listed above. The initials at the bottom of the note and the handwriting indicate the note was written by Norman Tindale (AA338), and it appears to contain his comments on the manuscript. Undated. One page.

  3. Black and white aerial photograph (measuring approximately 19x20 cm), taken from high altitude. Handwritten annotations on the reverse side indicate the photograph depicts an area in the Cavenagh Range, Western Australia, and that the photograph was provided to Norman Tindale, for his information, by Johnson. Undated.

  4. Black and white aerial photograph (measuring approximately 18.5x19 cm), taken from high altitude. Handwritten annotations on the reverse side indicate the photograph depicts an area near Mount Gosse, Western Australia, and that the photograph was provided to Norman Tindale, for his information, by Johnson. Undated.
