A series of six notebooks covering study leave in the United Kingdom and Europe, undertaken between July 1966 and January 1967.
The pages of the first five notebooks are consecutively numbered from 1 to 680.
The sixth notebook is numbered from page 1 to page 70 and contains notes towards a report on the study leave.
The photographs taken on this study leave are documented at AA 255/15/5/1-10.

The entries start in London, preparing for a trip to the archaeological excavations at Wallingford (near Oxford).
Worked at the Wallingford site from 11/8/1966 to 28/8/1966.
List of personnel at the site on pages 21 and 22.
Most of the entries on pages 18 - 88 are details of the photos taken. These are interspersed with notes about what people are doing, things to be done, letters to be sent etc.
29/8/1966 - 3/9/1966; pages numbered 89 - 94. Back in London. Notes about various visits and people.
The rest of volume 1 (pages 95 - 143) contains notes and drawings of objects seen at various museums and book references. Some of the museum locations are unclear but on 6/9/1966 he visited the Tropen [Tropical] Museum in Amsterdam (page 103).
