14 notebooks relating to the work done and samples collected in Roonka Trench A.
The notebooks that are dated cover the period November 1968 to September 1974.

1. Roonka Excavations, Register of Carbon Finds, Tr. [Trench] A.
The first date that is entered in the notebook , after sample number 79, is 12 October 1969
The first three pages detail samples numbered O1 - O37. However, there is a loose note clipped to these pages that states that these "have been included under the Tr. [Trench] A C[arbon] samples in doc. RG51. These have been renumbered as 239-274, keeping their original sequence'.
The next series of entries, starting 4 pages later, are numbered 1 - 238.
After sample 166 there are various crossed-out entries. These are samples from different trenches (B, 0A, 0B, 1A, 2A, 3B). The details of these have been re-entered in the relevant Trench notebooks.
Between Samples 233 and 234 there are samples numbered 1 - 4 at a location named "WS1".
Between Samples 234 and 235 there are samples numbered 1 - 9 at a location named "WS2".
It's not clear what WS1 and WS2 refer to.
There is a loose note after sample entry 235 titled "Deposits on Bone Fossils ex Mr Nobbs. Written by M.R. Bosworth, 10/4/73. Reference Plate 3209 BI-59.
This lists the results of a spectrographic examination of three bone samples - chemical elements found in each sample.

2. Roonka Excavations, Register of Soil Samples, Trench A.
Soil samples, numbered 1 - 184, are listed on pages 1 - 21. Shows sample number, grave number and other location details.
The only dates listed are:
Samples 111 - 114 24/8/1973
Samples 132 - 144 2/9/1973
Cranial soil samples, numbered 185 - 221, are listed on pages 22 - 25 . Shows sample number by skull number or other location detail.
Soil Samples, numbered 222 - 235, are listed on pages 25 - 27.
These samples were done much later, on 6/7/1984 (sample 222) and 28/1/1987 (samples 223 - 235).
Index at the back of the notebook lists soil samples from graves in Trench A - listed by Grave Number and Soil Sample Number.

3. Roonka Finds, Trench A, Volume Ⅰ.
Samples numbered A1 - A7 are named "Roonka Trench A finds 1A" are on a sheet stapled inside the front cover of the notebook.
Samples numbered 1 - 2242 are named "Roonka Finds Trench A".
The column headings are No. [sample number], Layer, S pit and Description.
The page between samples 2228 and 2229 shows the symbols used for "soil hatching for level plans".
The last few pages of the notebook have further details about specific finds - sample 1631, skeletons 93, 93a - 93c, 98 and 91 (with sketches).
On a page headed "Finds from 21/1/71" are trench measurements for samples 1580 - 1597.
In a section headed "Finds taken up 24/10/70 are trench measurements for sample number 1.
In a section headed "Finds from 25/1/71" are trench measurements for carbon sample 144 and samples 1541 - 1551.
The last page of the notebook has some rock definitions and a loose card with symbols for the different types of finds - European, hearth, stone flake, bone (human and animal), shell, ochre, carbon, miscellaneous and intrusive.

4. Roonka Finds, Trench A, Volume Ⅱ.
Samples numbered 2243 - 2395 and 2448 - 2514 are named "Roonka Finds Trench A".
The column headings are No. [sample number], Layer, Quad[rant], Level and Description.
Samples numbered 2396 - 2447 are surface finds dated 24/11/68. These are inserted on the pages between trench samples 2457 and 2458.
These sample details are on the first 27 pages of the notebook.
The last page lists 8 samples to "check if these finds have been taken up".
