'Corroboree', c1840 oil painting

The oil painting on canvas resulted from a ride on horseback from the Skipper's home to the stringybark forest to view a 'corroboree'. The scale of 'Corroboree' was an unusual choice for Skipper, as most of his paintings were on a significantly small scale. For many years, this painting hung in the office of Herbert Hale (see AA 124). The painting is currently on display at the Art Gallery of South Australia.
