Ngadlu tampinthi ngadlu Kaurna Miyurna yartangka. Munaintya puru purruna ngadlu-itya. Munaintyanangku yalaka tarrkarriana tuntarri.

We acknowledge we are on Kaurna Miyurna land. The Dreaming is still living. From the past, in the present, into the future, forever.

Cultural Sensitivity Warning
It is a condition of use of the cultural components of the Museum Archives that users ensure that any disclosure of information contained in this collection is consistent with the views and sensitivities of Indigenous people. Users are warned that there may be words and descriptions that may be culturally sensitive and which might not normally be used in certain public or community contexts. Users should also be aware that some records document research into people and cultures using a scientific research model dating from the first half of the twentieth century, and depicts people as research subjects in ways which may today be considered offensive. Some records contain terms and annotations that reflect the author's attitude or that of the period in which the item was written, and may be considered inappropriate today in some circumstances. Users should be aware that in some Indigenous communities, hearing names of deceased persons might cause sadness or distress, particularly to the relatives of these people. Furthermore, certain totemic symbols may also have prohibitions relating to the age, initiation and ceremonial status or clan of the person who may see them. Records included may be subject to access conditions imposed by Indigenous communities and/or depositors. Users are advised that access to some materials may be subject to these terms and conditions that the Museum is required to maintain.

Supplementary to: 'Lake Menindee' journals of visits to fossil sites by Norman B. Tindale, Volumes 1-3, 1939-1962 (AA 338/1/39).

Also supplementary to: 'Journal on Campsites and Stone Implements of the Australian aborigines; and others; notes etc., by Norman B. Tindale. Vol 4 with index. Adelaide S. Aust. 1961-1965' (AA 338/1/40/2)

This photo album holds 31 black and white photographic glossy prints, 18.5 x 20 cm, of aerial surveys of Lake Menindee and Lake Tandou in New South Wales, Australia. Also included are handwritten notes and a photocopy of the cover of the cardboard box (Ilford Photographic Paper) in which they were stored. Photos and notes were transferred by the archivist from the box to the album. Tindale labelled the box in black pen: 'Air Photographs of Lake Menindee Area, N. B. Tindale's fieldwork see Rec. S. A. Mus.' The label refers to Tindale's 1955 article, 'Archaeological site at Lake Menindee, New South Wales' in Records of the South Australian Museum, 11(3): 269-298.

Twelve prints are labelled 'Lake Tandou Dec 1960' ('Run 3L' to 'Run 5L'), six are labelled 'Lake Tandou Jan 1961' ('Run 1L' to 'Run 2L'), and thirteen are labelled 'Menindee Jan, 1961' ('Run 4' to 'Run 7'). A copyright statement stamped on the back of each print indicates that they were obtained from Department of Lands, New South Wales. Tindale's note in black pen on a sheet of green paper contains a list of photos taken during the survey 'runs', entitled 'Menindee shoot 7333' and 'Lake Tandou'. A folded note on green paper contains a brief list of things to do. A water-damaged notecard contains the following information: 'Site 2 Layer B implement in situ also float specimens', 'C14 sample top Layer B', hole size and South Australian Museum artifact number 'A54285'.

Tindale refers to 'C14 Sample A54285' in the Lake Menindee journal (see 338/1/39/3). The 'Campsite journal' contains correspondence 're new carbon 14 date' (pp. 693-700) and a reference to archaeological finds at Lake Tandou (p. 729) (see 338/1/40/2).

This item contains references to: New South Wales.
