Supplementary to 'Journal of the Anthropological Expedition to the Diamantina, North - East of South Australia. August 1934'. (AA 338/1/12).

This item contains photographic material obtained by Norman Barnett Tindale whilst accompanying the Board for Anthropological Research (BAR) party on their expedition to the North-East region of South Australia. The photographs are supplementary to Tindale's 'Journal of the Anthropological Expedition to the Diamantina N.E. of S. Australia August 1934' (AA 338/1/12).

There are two volumes of primarily b/w photographic prints and some acetated positives (transparencies) depicting train travel to Marree, members of the expedition party, collection and preparation of ngardu seeds, rock carvings and also photographs of Leslie Wilkie (artist and the then director of Art Gallery) at work. (Wilkie's portraits in oil of Australian Aboriginal people are currently held by the South Australian Museum). The second volume contains images relating to ceremonial activities that are restricted to men only.
