Jarildekald, South Australia

This drawer contains a short vocabulary drawn mostly from two George Taplin texts: The Narrinyeri: an account of the tribes of South Australian Aborigines inhabiting the country around Lakes Alexandrina, Albert and Coorong, and the lower part of the River Murray: their manners and customs, also an account of the mission at Point Macleay,1874 and The Narrinyeriin JD Woods's The Native Tribes of South Australia, 1879. The former source provides most of the entries. The drawer also contains an Erawirung entry drawn from Tindale's manuscript materials. It is worth noting that Tindale does not retranscribe the Taplin entries according to his preferred orthograpic system. Note also that the most significant of Tindale's Jarildekald vocabularies are found in shoeboxes AA 338/7/1/6-11.
