Notes on Wainjiwalku grammar

Supplementary to Journal: 'Harvard and Adelaide Universities Anthropological Expedition, Australia, 1938-1939. Journal and notes by Norman B. Tindale' (vols 1 and 2; AA 338/1/15/1-2).

This item includes 3 bound volumes (1 original and 2 photocopied versions) of Tindale's 'Notes on Wainjiwalku Grammar', recorded in July 1938 at Brewarrina, New South Wales, during the Harvard-Adelaide Universities Anthropological Expedition. Tindale's informant was George Dutton. These volumes consist of 55 handwritten pages. Contents include: a vocabulary list (1p.); grammatical notes (52pp. , mostly sentences with English translations); and ethnographic notes (2pp. ). One of the photocopied versions includes 1 x A4 page of notes entitled: 'Brief notes on the Wanjiwalku tribe and its language'. These are mainly contextual notes apparently for a proposed joint article with linguist Luise Hercus. They were probably written during the 1980s.
