Archive Collections / Board for Anthropological Research / Series AA346/05 / Harvard and Adelaide Universities Anthropological Expedition genealogies, 1938-39
'Genealogical Data on the Aborigines of Australia gathered during the Harvard and Adelaide Universities Anthropological Expedition 1938-39 by Norman B Tindale. South Australian Museum, Adelaide.'

This group of genealogies comprises seven bound volumes of genealogies, two bound volumes of copies of genealogies, a bound volume of births and deaths data and some loose genealogy sheets. The data was collected by Norman B Tindale (see AA 338) on the Harvard and Adelaide Universities Anthropological expedition in 1938-1939 (Board for Anthropological Research expedition N).

The genealogies generally show more than two generations, and include a range of information, from names, age or birthdate, place of birth, tribe or place of origin, 'genetic class', to notes on personal history such as occupation and place of residence. They are recorded on double foolscap sheets. Many extend across multiple sheets (numbered 2a to 2f, for example). Genealogies have the place at and date on which the data was recorded stamped on the top left hand corner. Individual subject numbers are also recorded, and these can be used to refer back to the data cards collected on the expedition (see AA 346/4/21); note also that the genealogy 'sheet numbers' correspond to the 'family numbers' in data card series AA 346/4/21/3.
