We acknowledge we are on Kaurna Miyurna land. The Dreaming is still living. From the past, in the present, into the future, forever.

This film was made during the Board for Anthropological Research (BAR) expeditions to Yuendumu, Northern Territory in August 1956, August 1957 and January 1958.

'Nabarula: A Story of an Aboriginal Girl' is a final film production which constructs various aspects of the life of an Aboriginal girl, from her babyhood in the bush, schooling and domestic life in a settlement, up to her adult years and motherhood.

Keywords: Food - Gathering, Food - Witchetty Grubs, Food - Fruits, Hunting - Lizard / Goanna, Children imitating animal and bird tracks, String games, Settlements, Cattle, Stockmen, Rations, Schools, Goats, Vegetable Gardens, Shelters, Gathering firewood and water, Domestic Service, Marriage, Food - Making Damper, Motherhood.

The method adopted by BAR expeditions to undertake research and record the results involved assigning a unique number to each individual (here called 'individual subject number'). This number was given the expedition symbol as a prefix, and remained consistent throughout the research. This expedition was assigned the symbol 'P.' All individuals recorded during the expedition were assigned an individual subject number, for example [P52]. Where possible the 'individual subject number' of those who appear in film have been noted.
