  5. cooking over hot mud. Annotated "Maori cooking bon. Sweet potatoes used to be cooked in flaxen baskets hung into pools of boiling water. Nowadays a billy is used and placed together with other receptacles in a wooden box and covered with a mat"

  6. Maori woman laundering. Annotated "a Maoris washing day. She needs no tubs no copper nor fires. The Maori woman takes her clothes to a warm spring near her house. The water is quite soft, all she needs is soap. If some clothes need boiling she puts them in a flax basket hangs them in a boiling pool, rinses them in another pool and the work is done"
