  4. Home made lamp. Annotated "Sunteton Station Nth Australia about 1300 miles Nth of Adelaide "Slush" lamp a wick made of sugar bags supported by a stick imbedded in jam tin of tallow. Their only method of illumination".

  5. Landscape showing a bush track through grass. Annotated "Track thru high grass. This is main road to Port ntDarwin for 1500 miles runs almost continually parallel with Overland Telegraph line" and "Main road to Darwin".

  6. Three people in a plantain grove. Annotated "Powell Creek 1500 miles north of Adelaide in the garden at the Telegraph Station. The trees are plantains which grow very quickly. The fruit is similar to a banana".
