  2. Australian Aboriginal man pulling goanna from hole in ground. Annotated "131. After digging for anything up to 5 minutes, he is rewarded for his efforts. (He never makes a mistake, to dig out an empty hole would make him an object of redicule in the tribe.)"

  6. Australian Aboriginal man scraping cooked kangaroo. Annotated "136. Cooking kangaroo. A huge fire is built in a hole in the ground and allowed to burn down to coals. The coals are removed and the kangaroo, (having been singed off) is placed in the primitive oven and then covered with the coals, skin and all. It takes 3 hrs to properly cook but the Abo eats it after about an hour and he always drinks the hot blood in the abdomen"
