  1. camel train. Annotated "32. Oodnadatta Alice Springs mail. Before the track was opened up for motor cars, camels were the only regular traffic over this 350 miles of 'His Majesty's Highway'. 30 miles a day is good going with these 'ships of the desert'. The motor mail now does it in 2 days"
