This item consists of 1x3 inch magnetic reel to reel tape recorded in 1965 at the Aboriginal Reserve at Port Augusta by member(s) of the Aboriginal Progress Association. There is little documentation accompanying the tape. The following notes are written on the tape box: 'From Laurie Bryan of Ab. Progress Assn. Voting Day March 6-7, 1965. Tape recorded interview between members of Aboriginal Progress Association (Adelaide) and Aborigines on Port Augusta Reserve regarding the conditions of life there'. The interview covers a range of topics including: accommodation, overcrowded conditions, population movements and employment opportunities. One of the named speakers from the reserve is Tim Strangways. Laurie Bryan was one of the organisers of the Aboriginal Progress Association that provided welfare and other support to Aboriginal families and individuals during the 1960s and 1970s.
