Such a large proportion of the transport in Yokohama had been rendered unserviceable by Allied air attacks that the remaining cars were overtaxed to transport the population. Both trams and trains were running when the Allies entered Yokohama, but other forms of transportation were primitive. Vehicles supplied by Japanese for the Allied Forces had been badly serviced and were nearly all worn out."
