Group photograph captioned: "N2520. Japanese surrender on Bougainville. Leading up to the Japanese surrender on Bougainville millions of leaflets were distributed to enemy troops by RAAF planes telling them of the Atomic Bomb and of the Japanese government's offer of surrender. On the under wings of the planes were painted in Japanese characters the words: "Japan has surrendered." Natives are shown loading some of the leaflets on to the planes. Australian official photo."
