Prior to the Japanese surrender on Bougainville, millions of leaflets were dropped by aeroplanes over Japanese lines calling on them to surrender. The leaflets told of the effects of the Atomic Bomb and announced that the Japanese Government had sought terms of surrender. Immediately the news of the Japanese surrender was announced on August 15th, the planes took off and within an hour dropped 231,000 leaflets announcing the news to Japanese troops. This is a copy of one of the leaflets dropoped over Japanese lines. Australian official photo."
