Ngadlu tampinthi ngadlu Kaurna Miyurna yartangka. Munaintya puru purruna ngadlu-itya. Munaintyanangku yalaka tarrkarriana tuntarri.

We acknowledge we are on Kaurna Miyurna land. The Dreaming is still living. From the past, in the present, into the future, forever.

Cultural Sensitivity Warning
It is a condition of use of the cultural components of the Museum Archives that users ensure that any disclosure of information contained in this collection is consistent with the views and sensitivities of Indigenous people. Users are warned that there may be words and descriptions that may be culturally sensitive and which might not normally be used in certain public or community contexts. Users should also be aware that some records document research into people and cultures using a scientific research model dating from the first half of the twentieth century, and depicts people as research subjects in ways which may today be considered offensive. Some records contain terms and annotations that reflect the author's attitude or that of the period in which the item was written, and may be considered inappropriate today in some circumstances. Users should be aware that in some Indigenous communities, hearing names of deceased persons might cause sadness or distress, particularly to the relatives of these people. Furthermore, certain totemic symbols may also have prohibitions relating to the age, initiation and ceremonial status or clan of the person who may see them. Records included may be subject to access conditions imposed by Indigenous communities and/or depositors. Users are advised that access to some materials may be subject to these terms and conditions that the Museum is required to maintain.

  1. Correspondence to Campbell from Edward Albert Colson (AA 62) at Alice Springs (May-July 1930) re arrangements for proposed BAR expedition (AA 346) to central Australia.

  2. Letter from Herman Adolph Heinrich (AA 487) at Hermannsburg Mission (NT) to Campbell on 6 June 1931 re proposed BAR expedition to Hermannsburg. Heinrich is happy for the BAR to visit Hermannsburg, but suggests that the anthropologists could find Aboriginal people to study at Ilbilla, Piltardi in the Petermann Range or at Horseshoe Bend, where there are some 'Lilla Creek natives'. Heinrich's letter includes a list of about 200 names of Aboriginal people at Hermannsburg.

  3. Letter from Constable Virgo at Oodnadatta Police Station to Campbell on 19 June 1931 advising that there are some Aboriginal people at Macumba, Lambina and Oodnadatta who would be suitable subjects for anthropological study. Virgo advises that 'there are always a fair-sized camp on the Alberga Creek' near Lambina Station, and 'a fair crowd of Natives' at Oodnadatta. Virgo also advises that Indulkana Station has closed and there are no Aboriginal people there.

  4. Letter from Friedrich Wilhelm Albrecht at Nuriootpa to Campbell on 23 June 1931 advising that after the BAR's 1929 expedition to Hermannsburg there was a strong revival of traditional ceremonies because the anthropologists had encouraged the performance of these rituals. Albrecht does not want this to recur if the BAR again visits the mission.

  5. Letter from Ernest Eugene Kramer (AA 669) in Alice Springs on 4 July 1931 to Campbell offering his help in finding Aboriginal people for the BAR's proposed studies. Kramer's letter includes brief references to the 'Illpirra' and 'Ngali' tribes.

  6. Letter from Sid Staines at Erldunda Station (NT) to Dr Robert Henry Pulleine (AA 259) on 25 November 1931, advising that he can 'muster up a hundred of more of those Petermann blacks into Mt Connor' where they could be examined by anthropologists.
