Archive Collections / Dr Joseph Benjamin Birdsell / Series AA689/05 / Glass Negative taken on the occasion of the visit of Governor Barron to Cape Barren Island, January 1911.

Two large glass half negatives taken on the occasion of the visit of Governor Barron to Cape Barren Island in January 1911. In 1939 during the Harvard and Adelaide Universities expedition, NB Tindale (see AA 338) sought identification of the individuals in the photograph from Mrs FH Archer, Mrs Barrett, JC Everett and Harry Brown. This identification list, and a print of this glass negative is found in NB Tindale's 'Tasmania and the Part Aborigines of the Bass Strait Islands and Kangaroo Island, also some field notes on stone implements and general field observations on Lepidoptera by Norman B Tindale. 1936-1965+' (see AA 338/1/36), p.viii. See also JB Birdsell's Harvard Adelaide 'Australian Daily Field Journal 1938-1939' (see AA 689/1/1), pp.146A-150. The box has 'June 1939' stamped on it.
