Photographs taken at Ooldea

This series consists of an album of 97 black and white photographic prints of various sizes, mounted on paper, with hand-written captions. Most of these photographs were taken between 1937 and 1949, when Iris Dicks lived at Ooldea Siding, South Australia. Some photographs were taken later in the 1950s at Penong, Fowlers Bay and the Yalata Aboriginal Reserve, when Iris and her husband were living in the Fowlers Bay area. The photographs are as follows:

Also included in this series is the acquisition agreement signed by Iris Dicks at the time the photographs were donated to the South Australian Museum, and some hand-written responses by Iris Dicks to questions posed by Philip Jones in March 1990. These notes contain some of Mrs Dicks' reminiscences of life at Ooldea Siding and the Aboriginal people and UAM missionaries, and additional details on some of the photographs.

The collection also includes a set of duplicate prints (13x9 cm) copied from Mrs Dicks' original nitrate negatives, filed in a separate album. Five of the duplicate prints were missing in August 2007.
