Photographic negative - 'Burdekin Duck Dance' - Archer River, North Queensland

Archive Collections / Prof. Frank John Fenner / Series AA91/1 / Photographic negative - 'Burdekin Duck Dance' - Archer River, North Queensland

One acetate negative depicting an Australian Aboriginal man wearing ceremonial attire and carrying two sticks. Annotations on the negative indicate the photograph was taken at Archer River, North Queensland, and the subject is performing a 'Burdekin Duck Dance'. The annotations also indicate that the negative is a copy made from the original photographic print in February, 1951, after the original negative was found to be lost. The photograph was taken by Ursula McConnel, who conducted fieldwork in western Cape York Peninsula in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Copies of the photograph are included in the South Australian Museum Ursula McConnel collection (AA 191).
