20x12.5 cm cards are loose and arranged alphabetically by species within Phylum. They give details of observations of where located, their habitat, abundance and size, breeding condition and with space for remarks. It is presumed that the index was compiled during Burdon-Jones' professional life.

There is two major divisions: Bryozoa and Tunicata.
