• The South Australian Museum (the Museum) aims to provide a safe and inclusive environment for all visitors, staff, volunteers and contractors.

• All persons entering a ticketed exhibition or event must present a valid printed or electronic ticket.

• The Museum may refuse entry to any of its ticketed exhibitions or events without the presentation of a valid ticket.

• All admission tickets are valid only for the date/time stated on the ticket.

• Entry into exhibition and event spaces will be subject to safety considerations and the capacity of the exhibition space.

• Unless otherwise specified, tickets are valid for one entry only.

• All ticket prices are displayed in AUD.

• Tickets purchased at the Museum box office are available via card payment only; cash is not accepted.

• A booking or ticket purchase is not confirmed without the full receipt of payment.

• Valid identification for concession ticket holders must be produced at exhibition entry or prior to purchase where a ticket in purchased in person. Failure to produce valid identification may result in the full payment of admission.

• Museum Members must show their valid membership card or renewal email when presenting their ticket at the exhibition entry desk to be eligible for any member discounted ticket or promotion.

• Last entry into an exhibition is recommended at least 45 minutes prior to Museum closing.

  • Requests to enter after that time are at the discretion of exhibition ticketing staff. No discounts will be offered.

• Tickets are non-refundable and cannot be redeemed for cash, gift vouchers or credit notes. 

• The Museum reserves the right to cancel a ticket and refund the amount paid.

• Ticket refunds will not be provided due to dislike of an experience or exhibition, or for misalignment of expectations.

• Lost, stolen or destroyed tickets cannot be replaced or refunded. The Museum accepts no liability for lost, stolen or destroyed tickets.

• The Museum reserves the right to vary ticket prices, seating arrangements, capacity limits, and add, withdraw or reschedule programs and presenters.

• The Museum is not responsible for ancillary expenses incurred by the ticket holder in the event the Museum is closed, or any events or exhibitions are closed, cancelled or otherwise unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances.

• The Museum will request and record personal information necessary for the provision of ticketing services. The collection, use & disclosure, of any personal information is in alignment with Australian Privacy Principles.

• Exhibition and event tickets cannot be used for any advertising, promotion, competition or other commercial purposes without the prior authorisation of The Museum.

• The Museum reserves the right to cancel a ticket without compensation if any of these terms and conditions are considered breached.

• The Museum reserves the right to update or change these terms and conditions at any time without prior notice.

• Tickets to Museum exhibitions and events may also be subject to any terms and conditions of third-party ticket providers. By purchasing a ticket to a South Australian Museum exhibition or event, you are automatically agreeing to any applicable terms and conditions. Specific Tickets

Member tickets are available to all valid Museum Members along with eligible exclusive offers and discounts. Reciprocal Member benefits will extend to exhibition ticketing only when outlined in their agreement.

Companion Cards are honoured for a free exhibition ticket at the Museum box office when shown with the purchase of an accompanying ticket.

Child tickets are for age ranges 12 years old and under.

Student tickets include age ranges 13-17 years with school issued student cards, as well as full-time student cards issued by an Australian tertiary education institution.

Family tickets may include up to 2 adults and up to 3 children aged 12 years and under. All members of the group must enter the exhibition at the same time.

Group tickets are offered at a discounted rate for groups of 10+, when all tickets purchased in the same transaction. This includes tertiary education groups.

School tickets are issued through the Museum’s Access and Learning team and are only available in advance, with payment via invoice issued through Shared Services. Find further information on School Group bookings. Tickets issued as a part of a school group booking are subject to additional terms and conditions.

South Australian Museum Conditions of Entry

Welcome to the South Australian Museum. The South Australian Museum is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors, staff, volunteers and communities.

Entry to the Museum is subject to these Conditions of Entry. By entering, you agree to comply with these conditions and with any reasonable direction given by Museum staff or authorised personnel.

In the interests of the safety of all our visitors and our collections, we ask you to abide by the following conditions:

General

• Entry to the Museum is at your own risk. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the South Australian Museum accepts no liability for loss, damage or injury sustained while on the premises.

• You are to comply with Authorised Officers as described in the South Australian Museum Act 1976 and behavioural controls as set out in the South Australian Museum Regulations 2019.

• You have the right to ask an Authorised Officer to produce an identity card confirming their status.

• Do not smoke or vape inside or within 10 metres of the Museum boundary.

• Do not leave litter in the Museum – either place rubbish in a bin or take it with you.

• You are not allowed to consume food and drink in exhibition areas, except during designated pre-booked events. Exceptions for infants who are confined to a pram or stroller may be made at the discretion of Authorised Officers.

• The Museum reserves the right to restrict access to areas, manage visitor numbers, alter open areas, or direct visitor movement at any time for operational, safety or security reasons.

Safety

• You must comply with all signs, notices and reasonable direction given by Museum staff, security personnel or Authorised Officers at all times. Failure to comply may result in refusal of entry or removal from the premises. • Be considerate of our collections and your fellow visitors.

• Do not run, do not pass behind barriers.

• Avoid blocking corridors, stairwells and other access routes.

• Bicycles, scooters, e-scooters, skateboards, rollerblades or roller skates are not permitted within the Museum. Balance bikes or scooters for small children may be brought inside the Museum, but not used, and left in the pram parking area at the discretion of security.

• Museum management, as represented by Authorised Officers identified in the relevant Act, reserves the right to refuse entry or remove any person from the site if this is deemed necessary to safeguard the welfare of other visitors, museum property or collections.

• If you are deemed to be intoxicated, affected by a prohibited substance or otherwise exhibiting offensive, abusive or disruptive behaviour, you will be refused entry or removed from the premises.

• Visitors must not engage in behaviour that disrupts others, including excessive noise, blocking access ways, or interfering with displays or other visitors.

• We reserve the right to exclude visitors who are not wearing suitable clothing and footwear. Suitable clothing includes t-shirts, sleeveless tops, shirts, jeans, shorts, etc., but excludes swimwear, underwear or clothing that may be offensive to other visitors.

• Security cameras are recording within the Museum and the surrounding area 24 hours a day.

• In the event of an emergency, you must follow all directions from Museum staff and emergency services personnel, including evacuation procedures.

Visitor Property

• You are responsible for safeguarding your belongings during your visit. We reserve the right to remove and/or destroy any unattended property if this is considered to be necessary for visitor safety and security.

• Security personnel may request to inspect bags or personal items as a condition of entry. Refusal to comply may result in refusal of entry or removal from the premises.

• Security personnel have the right to take and retain items they consider to be a hazard to people, objects or property. This includes but is not limited to: weapons & replica weapons, large items, skateboards and scooters. Additional restrictions for special exhibitions may apply. You may reclaim these items upon leaving the Museum, unless the item is prohibited by law, in which case police will be notified.

• A self-serve storage service is available. While all care is taken, the Museum cannot be held liable for any loss or damage of personal items.

• Lost and unclaimed property is held by the Museum for a period of 3 months, after which it is disposed of, recycled or donated to charity.

Inclusion, dignity and behaviour

• The Museum is committed to being a culturally safe and inclusive space. Harassment, discrimination, or offensive behaviour towards other visitors, staff or volunteers will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the premises.

Children and Parenting Facilities

• We accept no responsibility for unaccompanied minors in the Museum. We recommend children aged 15 and under visit in the company of an adult. Children aged under 12 must be accompanied by a carer aged 16 or over.

• Unaccompanied children aged 15 or under will not be permitted into special exhibitions.

• Visiting adults are responsible for the direct supervision of children in their care. We encourage groups with children to stay together during their visit, and to make a plan in case you are separated.

• The Accessible bathroom on the Ground Floor includes a change table. There is also a parenting room located on Level 1, with private and comfortable seating, changing and washing facilities. For hygiene reasons, baby changing is only permitted in designated areas.

• Breastfeeding is welcome anywhere in the Museum.

• Highchairs are available in the Museum Café.

Accessibility

• Lifts service all levels of the Museum to facilitate wheelchair and pram access to all areas of the building. Two standard sized wheelchairs and two adult walkers are available for free loan. This can be requested at the Information desk, but not reserved in advance. Photo ID will be required to borrow mobility devices. Electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters may be recharged at designated power outlets in the North Foyer.

• You are welcome to bring Accredited Assistance Animals into the Museum. Security staff may request documentary evidence of your Assistance Animal’s accreditation. No other animals are permitted. Information about the criteria for accredited animals can be found at the Dog and Cat Management Board.

• There is one accessible parking space behind the Museum, which is available on a first come-first-served basis. This space cannot be reserved in advance. It is accessed by coming through the boom gate on Morgan Thomas Lane. You will need to display your Disability Parking Permit at all times while utilising this space.

Photography and commercial activities

• You may take still and video photography for personal use anywhere in the museum except in some special exhibitions. Personal use includes sharing on social media pages, but not company sites.

• Flash photography is prohibited.

• For the comfort and safety of other visitors, you may not bring tripods in the museum (including monopods and ‘selfie sticks’ longer than 500mm) except through prior arrangement.

• Commercial activities, including commercial photography, and guided tours within the Museum require prior approval and may be subject to applicable fees.
