2026 Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize

General Terms and Conditions for Artwork Sales

As the purchaser of an original artwork in the 2026 Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize, I agree:

Purchasing

  • To purchase the artwork as listed and described on the South Australian Museum website and/ or in the exhibition.

  • To pay a non-refundable deposit of a minimum of 25% of the sale price.

  • That artwork purchases are non-refundable except where Australian Consumer Law applies.

  • That the sale price listed is final and non-negotiable.

  • To pay for the artwork in full no later than Wednesday 15 July 2026 (15/07/2026) or as documented otherwise.

  • That if the artwork is not paid for in full by this date, that the artwork may be resold.

  • That any condition notes in relation to the artwork being purchased have been read and understood and I acknowledge that this purchase is made with full awareness of these conditions.

  • To be contacted by representatives of the South Australian Museum with regard to my purchase.

  • To my details being passed on to the artist, should they request them.

  • All prices are listed in AUD and are inclusive of GST, where applicable.

 

Collecting

  • To collect the artwork by the final collection date of Friday 31 July 2026, 4pm, from the pre-determined collection location.

  • That I am responsible for artwork collection or freight requirements, including any associated costs, from the South Australian Museum.

  • That any collection arrangements must be confirmed in writing no later than Monday 20 July 2026 (20/07/2026).

  • To pay a storage fee of $20.00 (inc. GST) per day if I do not collect my artwork by the deadline collection date, payable before the artwork is collected.

  • That if I do not collect my artwork by the deadline collection date, as above, under the Unclaimed Goods Act 1987 I have until 4pm on Saturday 31 October 2026 (31/10/2026), 3 months after final collection date, to collect the artwork, which will be subject to the aforementioned storage fees (a maximum of $1840.00 inc. GST).

  • That the South Australian Museum has the right to sell or otherwise dispose of unclaimed goods after the expiration of the three-month period after the collection date, as listed above.

 

Insurance and damage

  • That the artwork I have purchased forms part of the 2026 Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize exhibition and will be on public display until from Friday 10 April 2026 (10/04/2026) to Sunday 19 July 2026 (19/07/2026).

  • That while in-situ at the South Australian Museum the work will be insured to the value of the sale price by an all-risks policy, up to and including the final collection date listed (31/07/2026).

  • That should my artwork be damaged while on display in the 2026 Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize exhibition at the South Australian Museum, or during the process of deinstallation and packing, I will be refunded the full amount paid to date, as specified on the receipts provided.

  • That the collection date listed above (31/07/2026) will mark the final date that the artwork is insured by the South Australian Museum and that the South Australian Museum is not responsible for any uninsured loss or for loss or damage exceeding the insured amount.

  • That the South Australian Museum is not responsible for any loss or damage of uninsured artworks during transit. Purchasers are advised to arrange suitable insurance for transit.

  • In the case of the intervention of any outside act, agent or event which prevents or significantly hinders the South Australian Museum’s ability to properly proceed with the sale of artworks on the dates and in the manner described in these terms and conditions, including but not limited to vandalism, power failures, tempests, natural disasters, acts of God, civil unrest, strike, war, act of terrorism, computer virus, fraud, tampering, unauthorised intervention or technical failure, the South Australian Museum may in its absolute discretion cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the sale of artworks.
