Pitjara (QLD)

LocationHeadwaters of Nogoa and Warrego rivers; south to Caroline, north of Augathella; east to Killarney and Chesterton; west to Nive River; north to Mantuan Downs. Not to be confused with Badjiri of the lower Warrego River or the Bitjara of southwestern Queensland. Some evidence suggests that a late prehistoric eastward movement of tribes south of Charleville caused a separation between the Pitjara and Badjiri; they are now separate tribes. The eastern boundary of the tribal area is marked by sheer cliffs and their country is well wooded.
