The Field Naturalists' Society of South Australia was founded in 1883 as a Section of the Royal Society of South Australia, and was incorporated in 1959.
The Society promotes the study, conservation and preservation of Natural History in South Australia, and since the 1890s has been instrumental in helping to establish numerous national parks. Many South Australian Museum employees have been members of the Society: TD Campbell (see AA 52), A Lea (see AA 867), RH Pulleine (see AA 259), NB Tindale (see AA 338), ER Waite (see AA 365), JB Cleland (see AA 60), F Wood-Jones (see AA 379), BC Cotton (see AA 892), HJ Wilkinson (see AA 370), HH Finlayson (see AA 93) to name but a few.
