A bound volume containing a series of 154 numbered letters written by the Papuans together with translations by Reverend Harry K Bartlett. A five page introduction by Bartlett, dated 1 December 1964, describes Papua prior to the Japanese invasion in 1942 and indicates the importance of these letters. Appended in the back of this bound volume is a photograph of a fish carved on the side of a canoe. This was from Sabali Island, PNG, dated January 1940. There are also two rubbings from canoes on Misima Island, PNG.
The letters cover the period 1933 to 1962 and are in the main part not in chronological order.
