Harry K Barllett was born December 5, 1903 at Leasingham, SA to Henry Theophilus and Annie Victoria (nee Ashton) Bartlett. Harry's name was Henry Kitchener but he disliked the name of Kitchener so much that he refused to answer to this name and became known as Harry. Educated at Watervale and Sevenhill public schools, and later at Unley High School and Wesley College, SA. Obtained a Licentiate in Theology (Melbourne) and served as a Methodist Missionary in SE Papua from 1929 to 1944. Served as the State Secretary of Overseas Missions, SA from 1945. Member of the Anthropological Society, SA; the Malacological Society, SA and Fellow of the Royal Society, SA.
Married Crystal on August 21, 1929; their marriage producing two sons and two daughters.
