Description of the terrain and rail journey from Birdum and Pine Creek. Travelled in a Sentinel locomotive carriage to Katherine where they boarded another train to Pine Creek. Meets Dr [Clyde] Fenton (1901-1982) at Katherine. At Pine Creek visited the Court House where an old Chinese man was being tried for opium smuggling and further relates a story of an earlier case. First sight of the large ant hills [termite], twelve feet in height and their large flutes giving them the appearance of Gothic cathedrals.
