This item is a typescript copy of the journal with a handwritten note by Tindale: '3rd copy taken to Haast Bluff. 1957'. Both the typescript and carbon copies (see AA 338/4/35) were removed from an Ilford X-Ray film box for conservation purposes. The pages are numbered with original journal page numbers typed in the left margins. Includes hand-drawn sketches, a typed press notice of the expedition, Aranda, Kukatja, Pintubi and Ngalia plant lists, drawings of specimens and documentation. Reference is made to Olive Pink and Carl Strehlow (see AA 315).

The expedition was financed by the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research in New York and the University of Adelaide.

The expedition party included Dr Dudley Packer (anthropologist), Prof. John Burton Cleland (blood sample collection and plant and bird study, see AA 60), Mr John R Casely-Smith (blood samples), Mr Geoffrey S Heithersay (dental), Peter Kempster (technician), Prue Kriewalt (cook), Jeff (driver) and Norman Barnett Tindale (anthropologist). Prof. Andrew Arthur Abbie (see AA 688) joined the party later.
