Item AA 338/5/21 is supplementary to Norman Barnett Tindale's: 'Journal of Visit to the North West of South Australia and adjacent parts of Western Australia by Norman B. Tindale. April May 1957.' (AA 338/1/22/1). The expedition was organised by the Board for Anthropological Research (BAR, see AA 346), University of Adelaide. The expedition party included Norman Barnett Tindale and Walter Batchelor MacDougall (AA 193).

This item consists of two volumes of photographic material. The majority of photographs contain images of rock carvings and paintings relating to sites of significance to Jankundjara and Pitjandjara people in particular. Some of the photographs in Vol. 1 may contain culturally sensitive information relating to both men and women. This volume also includes some photographs by Allan Ferguson Brumby (see AA 42), Everard Range 1929. Vol. 2. contains images relating to ceremonial activities that are restricted to men only.

The images appear in the formats of b/w photographic prints and acetate negatives.
